Rachel Alexandra is a tremendous filly. The best I’ve ever seen and that was before I saw the Woodward Stakes.
Rachel Alexandra has won all eight of her starts in 2009, with three of those wins against the boys. She defeated Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mine That Bird (Birdstone) in the Preakness as well as Belmont S. (G1), Travers S. (G1) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) winner Summer Bird (Birdstone) in the Haskell Invitational (G1) at Monmouth Park. Her Woodward win was the first by a female in that prestigious fixture, a race in which she was pressed on a hot pace throughout and fought off the late charge by Macho Again.
Rachel Alexandra is the first filly to win the Woodward Stakes!
Sept. 5th, Saratoga Springs New York
Horsemen know just how hard it is for a filly to win over older males but Rachel Alexandra did it, under intense pressure from the males and being whipped by her jockey to win by a head.
Bravo Rachel Alexandra! You are probably the finest filly in the History of Horse racing in America. I just get goose bumps when I watch her run.
Such talent and such courage. She deserves all the credit in the world for her to beat the older boys in the Woodward Stakes and in 55 runnings of the Woodward stakes only the second filly to even try. That says a lot.
The fractions for the race were crazy fast. The first quarter in 22.4 which is 6 furlong sprint time. She went 6 furlongs in 1:10 (fast fast fast) the half in 1:35 and won at 1 minute 48 seconds. Wow!
"There's no free ride for Rachel Alexandra," track announcer Tom Durkin who called the race said. "They've pushed her through a punishing quarter mile. They’re making her work for every step today"
When I saw her coming down the stretch run and those big boys with their huge bodies full of muscle I started to cry. I just can’t help it. It was just so courageous of her to win.
The enormously talented filly, Rachel Alexandra, although still in training, will be bred to the talented Curlin. Curlin one Horse of the Year twice! Scary good.

Rachel Alexandra wins the Kentucky Oaks. 1:48.4
May 2, 2009
Rachel Alexandra was sold to Stonestreet Stables just one week after running the Kentucky Oaks for fun and leaving the field behind.
Both of the pedigrees of these two horses have speed and stamina in excess. Both have Northern Dancer in their lines. Especially Rachel Alexandra bottom line which is full of crosses to Northern dancer.
I can understand the connections reluctance to run her in the Breeders Cup. She is so valuable as a brood mare and this future breeding to Curlin might produce a super horse.
In my mind Rachel Alexandra is already a super horse. I hope her first foal takes and she gives birth without any problems.
The 3-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly is heading up to Saratoga Springs for possibly the Woodward Stakes.
Her connections have stated that she will not run in the Breeders cup because they don’t want her to run on poly track or “plastic” as they said.
I thought most horsemen liked the poly surface. Is this a smokescreen?
Every time I see her it just gives me goose bumps and this was no exception.
Love this filly

Mother Goose Stakes
June 27th, 2009
Rachel Alexandra won the Mother Goose Stakes for her 7th straight win in record time. She won by over 19 lengths and was eased at the finish because she just didn’t need to go any faster.
