Laminitis in Race Horses.

Signs of Laminitis can turn from an a mild symptom to something quite difficult or impossible to treat.

If a race horse is suspected of having Laminitis, it is imperative that the vet be called in to take immediate action and start treatment.

Stop walking your horse. Keep him off of hard surfaces. Make his bedding in his stall extra thick so that he has extra cushion for his foot.

Pleasure horses often get this condition when fed too much grain, are overweight and do not get enough exercise but I’m going to concentrate on the race horse.

Barbaro developes laminitis in his uninjured foot.
