The Darley arabian is one of the foundation sires of the modern thoroughbred. The two others are the Byerly Turk and the Godolphin Arabian

The Kentucky Derby.

What makes the Triple Crown so special is that horses that race about once every month are asked to run the Kentucky Derby, then just two week later the Preakness and then go to the Belmont Stakes, on a track that is exactly one and one half miles long.

Mine that Bird wins on a rail trip with Calvin Borel in the saddle.  His odds?  50 to 1.

The Kentucky Derby (winner-Mine that Bird) has been run and next comes the Preakness Stakes and finally the Belmont Stakes.

Just a few days ago Calvin Borel stated he wanted off Mine that Bird to instead be the jockey on the Kentucky Oaks Winner, filly Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness Stakes.

Rachel Alexandra wins by half length over Mine that Bird in 2009 Preakness Stakes

The Preakness Stakes is a classic 1 3/16 mile thoroughbred race for three year olds, held on the third Saturday in May of each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes, my favorite race because it’s so long and grueling, is a prestigious horse race held yearly in June at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The race is the third leg of the Triple Crown, following the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

The Breeders Cup, held at at a different track every year is the premier event of the year.  The Breeders' Cup Thoroughbred Championships is an annual series of thoroughbred races sponsored by the NTRA. It is a one day event held at a different race course each year.

John Bryant has for many year said that there was just too many medications, especially the use of Bute and Lasix, in the horse racing business.

John Bryant has also stated that the breed has become weaker because of the use of Lasix, which controls bleeding in the throat, causing the Thoroughbred to stop running.  You can’t run when you can’t breath.

Also in the forefront is the use of anabolic steroid Winstrol.  Which was reported today that some people in the racing world have said should be banned from now on.

John Bryant, a Thoroughbred enthusiast in the major tracks in the east - You may find him at Churchill Downs, Kentucky, Elmont, New York and Miami, Florida to name but a few of the many race tracks he has worked at.

This site is dedicated to the Thoroughbred, America’s race equine.
